After a 52-year-old French man with psychosis repeatedly swallowed sharp objects, doctors had to remove nails, knives, pins, needles and other harmful objects five times in five years from his stomach. Patients who live with psychosis have a hard time distinguishing between what is real and what is fake. The disorder causes people to lose touch with reality. The objects (pictured right) that the doctors removed from the man's stomach (pictured left) formed masses in his intestines called bezoars. His bezoars were removed both endoscopically and surgically.
